Hello, not only has my digestion improved, but the overall functioning of my body has also gotten better. In March, I had an allergic reaction to antibiotics, resulting in a red face and eczema on my knees, with one area becoming moist and spreading over my entire knee. Now, the redness has completely disappeared. As for sleep, I used to lie in bed for up to two hours before falling asleep, but now I fall asleep within minutes of lying down. I no longer experience headaches, and heartburn and reflux have also disappeared. Another change I've noticed is the absence of menstrual pain, or only very mild discomfort. My bowel movements have also improved significantly. On bad days, with more stress and poor sleep (my little one is teething with five teeth at once), I can feel the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome flaring up. However, overall, it has been much better lately, and most days I no longer experience diarrhea.

I became interested in nutrition over eight years ago when I realized that as a woman, I would one day become a mother to my children. In preparation for a healthy and trouble-free pregnancy, it was a top priority for me to change my lifestyle at that time and improve my overall health.

At that time, it was not easy for me to distinguish grain from chaff, truth from myths, and define what a healthy diet should look like. The internet and social media can handle a lot, and one can find many unsupported opinions and unprofessional advice there, which can unfortunately seriously harm health.

I have gone through a lot of trial and error, so I can empathize with what it’s like to navigate through a pile of conflicting information, especially when dealing with various health issues. When I started to explore the field of nutrition from various professional sources, I became so captivated by this area that I dedicated every spare moment to self-study. I delved deep, even down to the molecular level, which I found very exciting. My initial studies in chemistry during my bachelor’s degree fascinated me with its connection to nutrition—how the food we consume triggers biochemical and physiological reactions in our bodies, and how specific details determine whether a substance or food will have a positive or negative effect, taking into account our individuality.

Subsequently, I decided to pursue studies in Human Nutrition, and it was a fantastic decision.

After obtaining my engineering degree in Nutrition, I was not satisfied with the knowledge I had acquired and continually strive to advance through professional literature, clinical studies, international courses, and webinars. I recognize the depth and dynamic nature of nutrition as a field, which requires continuous daily education. All of this is with the aim of becoming the exact kind of nutritionist that I needed at the beginning of my own journey. I consider personalized nutrition, tailored to the needs of the individual, to be a very powerful and effective tool in the prevention and treatment of many diseases.

We have two little princesses, and thanks to them, I have had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with children’s nutrition in addition to theoretical knowledge. Yes, my children have turned up their noses at many meals I lovingly prepared, even when I was at my physical and mental limits. However, I am proud of myself and my husband for persevering, and our girls are not dependent on sweets, they enjoy vegetables, and they even eat lentils and liver. Children are our number one priority, and while it’s impossible to maintain the same routine we had before they were born, we must remember that we create their entire world. We are their greatest role models, and they watch our every move closely. Therefore, we parents should take care of our health in the same way we want our children to take care of theirs in the future.

My name is Denisa Džuganová, and I am a nutrition specialist. My primary focus in my practice is addressing issues related to functional digestive disorders and food intolerances. I rely on the knowledge and methods I acquired during my university studies in Human Nutrition at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. I recognize the depth of nutrition and how dynamic a field it is, requiring ongoing, daily education. My goal is to become the very nutritionist I needed at the beginning of my own journey. MY JOURNEY

My journey as a nutrition consultant began to take shape in my childhood when I admired my two brothers, who pursued professional ice hockey from a young age. I was fascinated not only by their perseverance and discipline but also by the strict dietary regimen that was an integral part of their success on the ice. Even then, I understood that proper nutrition is the foundation of athletic performance, as it provides the necessary energy, supports muscle recovery, and reduces the risk of injury. Athletes, especially women, need to be particularly careful, as improper nutrition can lead to RED-S syndrome, menstrual cycle disorders, weakened bones, and an increased risk of injuries. They often underestimate the importance of proper nutrient intake, which impacts their health and performance.

In high school, I developed a deep love for biology and chemistry. It was here that I began to study nutrients and their metabolism at the molecular level more deeply. What started as an interest quickly turned into a passion. I educated myself from the best in the field, drawing inspiration from international experts in nutrition and dietetics such as Renee McGregor, Marie Spano, and Jennifer Sygo.

My thirst for knowledge led me to the prestigious Swansea University in England, where I successfully completed a degree in Biochemistry. There, I gained a solid foundation, which I further developed during my Master’s studies in Sports Nutrition at Westminster University. This period shaped me not only as a professional but also as a person who understands that nutrition is not just about food but about a holistic approach to lifestyle.

After completing my studies, I focused on professional nutrition consulting. My early experiences were in a network of dietary clinics, where I sought to help people improve their health and apply my knowledge in practice. However, I gradually realized that the approach there, which focused primarily on addressing health problems through supplements, did not align with my philosophy. Unlike many nutrition consultants in Slovakia, I now focus on comprehensive nutritional recommendations based on the individual needs of clients, without an over-reliance on supplements. I continually educate myself through seminars, webinars, reading scientific articles, and books to provide my clients with the most up-to-date and highest quality knowledge. For me, nutrition is not just a job; it’s a calling.

 

As a nutrition consultant, I emphasize an individualized approach. I believe that every person is unique, and therefore, nutrition plans must be tailored to fit. My clients are diverse—ranging from athletes who need to optimize their diet for better performance to individuals looking to lose weight or improve their overall health. In practice, I emphasize a comprehensive and sustainable approach to nutrition that considers each client’s individual needs, lifestyle, and health status, rather than focusing solely on quick weight loss. You won’t find short-term diets or extreme methods with me, as these can lead to nutrient deficiencies, slowed metabolism, and long-term health problems. With my guidance, you’ll achieve lasting results without risking your health.

I care for my body just as I advise my clients to care for theirs. I regularly work out at the gym, swim, practice yoga, and meditate. In my free time, I enjoy walks in the forest and moments spent with family, which bring me inner peace and balance. Health, to me, is a holistic concept that encompasses physical, mental, and emotional aspects of life. I´ll be happy to help you find this balance as well and achieve your best self.

My goal is to educate clients about nutrition in a clear and understandable way, so they can view food holistically rather than categorizing it as healthy or unhealthy.
